Ack. Halloween is now only 9 days away and we're still trying to come up with the perfect costume for the kidlings. I take pride in the notion that the kids don't purchase cheesy store bought costumes, but at this point, if I can get Michael to agree on anything, I am willing to settle.
In past years, Michael has been:
A lion (yes, store bought, but babies are cute)
A dinosaur (ditto)
Alvin (from Alvin and the Chipmunks)
Elvis (thankyouverymuch)
A slot machine (one armed bandit complete with moving tumblers)
The Headless Horseman (complete with cackling pumpkin head)
A ghoul (rolled around in the dirt in a salvage store suit, and dragged one leg through the mall...my ham)
The bus driver from Southpark (complete with bird and nest in hair...What did you say?! Sit Down!)
Jack (from Jack in the box--suspenders, power shirt, and giant Jack head)
Emeril (Bam!)
And then with Zoe,
The Jolly Green Giant and a pea pod
Football player and cheerleader (because anything in pony tails and bobby socks is cute)
Which brings me to THIS year. Peter Pan and Tinkerbell would be a great idea, but Michael's already done his stint in tights. We talked about him being a barista and Zoe a bag of coffee, but she keeps mentioning Dora, but that leaves Michael to be either Boots or Swiper, and neither is something he wants to do. Unfortunately, we're running out of time, so maybe tomorrow, we'll sit down and settle this. He says this is his last year, so we'll have to go out with a bang.
Posted by Angel Zobel-Rodriguez at October 22, 2003 11:01 AMI have an 8 year old who has asked to be the headless horseman. Could you help me please with some ideas and how you went about creating your headless horseman costume?
Thanks
I am 14 years old and for this year's costume..i want to be a football player...ya know? the whole black underneath the eyes thing and the football jersey and helmet. Good luck with all your costumes! but the football player is a great idea.

Posted by: Kaye Plantenberg at October 15, 2004 11:04 AMHow funny the Headless Horseman thing is going around this year...My 6yo has been begging to get his costume completed. So far we have a smaller men's size overcoat that we put on him, pull to the top of his head and pin at the back. He'll wear a black stocking cap to cover his hair and black gloves so his hand won't be seen holding a foam pumpkin (the kind that had a light inside but we removed it). The idea is (and I'd better get my neighbor-who-sews cracking on it!) to cut small holes where his eyes are and buttonhole them. My husband is thinking we could sew pieces of nylon so my son's eyes can't be seen well but he can see out (always important, right?!)
Am I missing anything here? A horse, I guess...But otherwise, does it sound plausible?
Posted by: stephanie at October 18, 2004 08:22 PMIve a headless costume.. homemade..
a wooly hat. with i think 4 wire coat hangers 2 for shoulder arches 2 for hold on to body front and back.. wooly hat to protect head from wires..
2 white shirts 1 shirt cut of arms.. 2nd shit but hoel under arms so arms can go in to sleeves while coller is buttoned over the head..
sew extra arms over the the other arms because other wise they will be short..
add frills from doilles or curtain liners frilly stuff to coller and to arms .. add a Vampire cape... and also made a large cloth belt not sure o real name.. cow boy boots look good to...
see it on the costume version of my sight
My boyfriend wants me to make him a Peter Pan costume. He wants the costume to be very warm cause we'll be near the ocean. Any ideas?
Thank You Very Much
